Contrary to popular belief of soda's sugar and caffeine aiding in one's inability to sleep, I find that I personally am more tired if I consume such a beverage. Perhaps it is simply so unhealthy and poisionous, it eradicates that much more life from me.

Of course soda doesn't give you energy. Carbonated energy drinks maybe but not simple soda. The only things you'll get out of them are spoonfuls of sugar and maybe gastritis since the acids in them can corrode your stomach's wall.

Caffeine itself is a stimulating drug, which explains the addiction if you take too much.

Back in my naive youth, I had to drink a fair amount of coke to feel anything - of course this was back when I didn't take breakfast seriously, but that's another issue in and of itself.

A part of it though, you can take as something of a self-fulfilling prophecy, much like a placebo. You drink it, subconsciously thinking it will make you more alert and awake, and you fool your body into doing so... well, at least for a little while.

Sprite always helps me to maintain my energy, however, drinking coke before playing any kind of sport (I play basketball) is not suitable at all - it can really slow you down. On another comment of this - Whenever I'm at a restaurant, I always drink soda. At home I drink healthy stuff.

i like my protein shakes... throw in a few berries makes me a happy boy :D

I think the best to drink, aside from the ever-necessary water, is just real 100% juice

but when i comes to soda, I drink root beer when I feel like I need to melt away after a long day.
Sprite when Im about to go to a party
And I only drink coke when i want to mix it in with my other drinks.

I guess soda is one of those things that generate a great number of opinions and reactions from drinking the beverage.
