Highly esteemed film director Shinkai Makoto, famed for productions such as 5 Centimeters Per Second, has announced his latest coming work for 2013 – a tale of romance entitled “Garden of Kotonoha”.
According to the director’s personal site, this will be a “classical Japanese” take on love – one which will see us through the very phenomenon of “love” as it happens, yet show the unfortunate overcast of standards and circumstance which hinder unadulterated emotion. The plot will explore both love and loneliness as true affection comes only once in a lifetime – or so the story goes.
Planning for the film began back in the spring of 2012, and it’s en route for a release in the first half of 2013.
Shinkai Makoto’s previous creation was Hoshi o Ou Kodomo, an innovative adventure which shook viewers through artistry on all levels of perception. A ravishing yet somewhat frightening plot mixed with symphonic sound and equally as soul spindling visuals made for a film experience most unforgettable.
The film lineup for 2013 continues to strengthen almost unbelievably – and, arguably, even surpasses the TV lineup in what it provides. Madoka’s third part, which introduces a completely new story expansion, is still set for the new year, as is the Steins;Gate film – and the original project, Sakasama no Patema, should finally arrive in 2013 as well.
Regardless of other matters, 2013 will be no less than wonderful for the otaku.

I’ve been thinking about watching his previous works. This might end up convincing me.

You should. 5cm/s is my personal all-time favorite. Voice of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days are good too, albeit kinda hard to understand.

Any of those available on Blu-ray?

Maybe you should fix the title to 5cm/s, Seven.

The suggestion is appreciated.

Sounds like a good year for movies though the title for this one made me think of a Kara no Kyoukai x School Days crossover fanfic. Also Kizumonogatari is supposed to come out in 2013 as well.
