Whilst the CD debuts November 21st, the cover image is already available for Chuunibyo’s “Inside Identity” ED theme – and the illustration interestingly takes focus to the seifuku instead of the moeblob.
Below, this CD cover piece isn’t a particularly astonishing work of art – although it is a bit captivating in how it is seemingly the first, or at least one of the very minuscule few, illustrations of the series which feature the girls absent of any excessive moeblob qualities. Less fortunately however, the main reason this is the case is as the visages are essentially distorted and obscured across the board as result of glaring sunlight – meaning they haven’t much a chance to even be one way or the other.
It’s certainly progress at least – and aside from that aspect, all other visuals elements keep respectably consistent.
The repetition of red is rhythmic across the canvas space – and the heavy injections of black make for harmonic segments of backward recession. The darker areas pull back – and this allows for the tones of a greater vivacity to steal all the attention, such as more specifically, the saturated blood red of the skirt pattern which vaults in front of the other, more subtle, hues which have received a boost in contrast from the encompassing black.
Some additional effort could have left this art piece looking vastly superior, such as a more explicit accent on the focal point, and perhaps less intensity fazing the characters – yet the typography is also an intrusive pest, and one must remember this is a mainly a promotional image after all.
Looking at the full 360, it’s a decent square slice of imagery.
