Adding to the many instances of ridiculous otaku spending, a film strip put up for auction around a week ago which features the yuri snuggling segment of the Madoka film has now sold for approximately $13,620 USD.
Many of those in the motherland who attended the film premiere of Madoka Magica were able to procure a complementary strip of film – all of which featured assorted scenes straight from the destructive hypemachine itself. However, one otaku managed to acquire what is essentially the entire highlight of the movie, especially considering it’s little more than a recap of the TV series – and it seems this fellow realized the potential such a piece of light sensitive plastic holds.
$13,000 could buy a respectable used car – or account for a low income salary.
As always, it remains completely baffling how such obsessives individuals somehow are in possession of wealth which others can hardly imagine – and then even go so far as to spend it on vanities as silly as a few inches of an easily crinkled, highly susceptible piece of rectangular shaped rubbish.
On the plus side, the seller is surely enjoying the increase in the net value of their bank account – capitalism certainly seems to pay off for those who take advantage of magical girls. As a single splice of the Madoka movie can reel thousands of USD, SHAFT is surely overflowing in currency of all colors at the moment.

It’s another case of why do they have more money than us…

capitalism

I’d rather spend my money on those expensive applications in iOS or android.

indeed, you can probably use that amount of money to live for months, i don’t understand what they think they will gain by possessing such, i’m an avid fan of madoka, but i think purchasing such, is not worth it as it is just a filmstrip even if it is rare merchandise, as there are more important things to spend on

If you buy it for $13,000, you can probably sell it next year for $24,000.
Oct 23, 2012 @ 1:25 CDT
that is, if you even find someone to buy it for that much, although given that there are people who buy hundred (correct me if i’m wrong) tickets for the movie, i’m not surprised if there was one who would buy it for that much in this world

This is not soft-core yuri. I propose a new category for this sort of awkward moe pseudo-snuggling: Fuwa fuwa yuri!
Oct 21, 2012 @ 20:55 CDT
MOTHER OF GOD!!! That must be the most amazingly epic yuri that the world has seen.
Oct 21, 2012 @ 22:47 CDT
It is the yuri that changed the universe, afterall.
Oct 22, 2012 @ 10:53 CDT
One of the holy relic that shows how the Goddess saved the universe. But surely even I have to acknowledge that owning a copy of the movie when it comes out in Blu-Ray would be more economical.
Oct 24, 2012 @ 4:56 CDT
Indeed….. I love MadoHomu as well and Madokami is my Goddess but I would think a few hundred times and still say no to such a rip off. He’s better off buying the Scale Figure, Figma and Nendoroid all at once and it’s still cheaper.
Oct 21, 2012 @ 21:03 CDT
Probably just a crazy guy who maxed out his credit card fr a few frames of madoka yuri
Oct 21, 2012 @ 23:11 CDT
Yeah that’s way too much to spend for a short film strip.
Oct 22, 2012 @ 12:50 CDT
Only moe sells so well.
Oct 22, 2012 @ 17:21 CDT
Moe yuri magical girl.
