An elemental workshop.

A preview clip sampling the first episode of “Chuunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai!” has been released – a testament to unoriginal character design everywhere, whilst also prostrating down to conventionalities of genre.

It was apparent from the first key visual, the characters are not too imaginative in their appearances or overall style in general – mannerisms and poses included. Yet even with that accounted for, the series seemingly still has room to drop another tier in terms of character design. Looking at the animation in full motion, as per this PV of episode one, the characters appear even more so as if incarnations of the many Kyoto Animation tropes than in theory.

At least on the not-so-bright side however, the whole atmosphere seems fittingly suffocated from a lack of the rare elixir “creativity”. Its been expected for a while, and well-understood as the basis of this series, although now seeing the standard slice of life romance theme in action is feeling akin to being lost in a forest and repeatedly passing through the same oddly shaped tree over, and over again – only there is no hope for survival in this case.

Despite the premise being little more than a highschool love story reborn, the concept would have still had a chance if it transpired in a manner individualistic to its name – such as Hyouka. However, the reason that such seems without hope is even assuming a fair turn of events does indeed occur, one must wonder if the weight of characters saturated in the fatty acids of commonality could be so easily matched or outweighed by other elements.

If the worst case scenario of utter failure occurs, at least one should have already been aware of the possibility and reason in advance.
