Success is apparently just inevitable when Urobuchi Gen is involved – Psycho-Pass has brought out a PV boasting actual cuts from the animation, and one is left feeling as if a blitzkrieg of spectacular is about to assault.
Music, much like with the original preview clip, is of a constantly building adrenaline pump regardless if the sounds have acoustic origins, or computerized birthplaces. The vibrations of sound start driving one’s senses – and then the panning camera, which presents an exhilarating overview of a nighttime cityscape full of life, begins to instantly immerse one into the post-modern realm of Psycho-Pass.
This series has a setting similar to Ghost in The Shell in the dark city vibe – yet the single reason that’s worth pointing out is for one to more easily recognize that the metropolitan isn’t as immensely threshed out in detail as was the case in Ghost in The Shell. And this isn’t a flaw, nor a complaint, it’s merely a style of preference notable in Psycho-Pass – thereby subsequently worth recognition as it could very well have meaning later on, for better or worse.
Back to the video, successive shuffling of scenes follow thereafter – the cute yet readily inclined to engage the worst, Akane, looks to be a newbie on the law enforcement team in the process of awakening to the sickening actuality of her surrounding climate. Different aspects of this city, meaning characters, criminals, and areas alike, continue to be given a flash of emphasis as if serving to lead up into the kind of place which both ourselves, as well as the adorable bishoujo detective girl, have now entered.
A bit beyond, the video goes into hyper-acceleration – and indeed, the hype starts expanding at tenfold the rate. Strips of action are scattered throughout the closing half of the clip – and the animation is looking empowered with elaborate movement, as well as meaningful outcomes alike.
Production IG’s main point of incapability has been story – yet in the case of Psycho-Pass, Gen Urobuchi has that covered. And aside from that, what other concerns could there possibly be? The character designs of Psycho-Pass are already established as exquisite – and the aesthetics overall are definitely major league. The whole concept of the series is appealing already – and essentially, everything is laid out. It could not get simpler than this for Production IG – they have all which they require to make an unparalleled series, now they merely need to deliver it.

CGI guns and hands?! *sigh*
Sep 29, 2012 @ 9:22 CDT
What’s wrong with CGI?
The main reason I’m not liking it is it gives shapes a very banal solid texture.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 9:39 CDT
DAT GUN!!!!
Sep 29, 2012 @ 9:55 CDT
I’m so hyped about this show !! Hope it will be as good as GitS if for better or worse.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 10:05 CDT
“Hope it will be as good as GitS”
I don’t feel it is appropriate to scale it as a whole in comparison to Ghost in The Shell because creative works are variable – when I referenced the series in the article, that’s merely to use it as a basis of understanding where Psycho-Pass differs style-wise, not quality-wise. It’s a minute thing, although I feel it is important to point out.
That said, Ghost in The Shell is a league of its own – you can’t expect any series to meet it.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 11:14 CDT
I can see the antagonist’s smile for a second. Cannot wait for his appreance. Hope the hero is not some kind of emo angsty type.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 11:39 CDT
Err, wasn’t it already shown in the first trailer and character designs.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 11:47 CDT
The difference now is it’s not a totally flat image.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 11:53 CDT
I can’t really tell whether he’s taking about; “appearance = how they look” or “appearance = the finally shows up and does something in the series”
Sep 29, 2012 @ 11:59 CDT
I think it’s the second one since he mentioned the protagonist’s personality – he likely wants to see something similar of the antagonist.
Then again, he mentions the smile – so yeah, I’m not sure either.
Sep 30, 2012 @ 3:20 CDT
Sorry if I made it ambiguous. What I mean is: waiting for his to show up at the series.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 12:44 CDT
My hype meter broke. Damn this looks sooo epic it doesn’t matter that Production IG is involved.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 12:44 CDT
Based on the trailers, this is about the first title I’m interested in from the next season… maybe JoJo, but the others doesn’t look too interesting.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:09 CDT
Did you just assume that the story is related to Production I.G?
They are an animation studio, the story is always handled by the writers they assign to it. If we are talking animation, they are top tier.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:34 CDT
Did you just assume that the story has no relation to an animation?
If writing a book, the book itself tells the story – in the case of an animation, the animation is what is presenting the story. If Production IG were top tier in animation, they wouldn’t have made something as awful as Guilty Crown. The sole aesthetic aspect is of foremost importance in animation – although many, yourself as well it seems, don’t seem to understand how aesthetics interact with story to deliver a coherent plot.
There’s a difference between a shiny rock, and an intricately crafted piece of jewelry.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:44 CDT
What? The animation of Guilty Crown was awesome. If Yoshihino wasn’t writing that, and say, Gen was, it would be much better.
I do understand that, and I think GC’s animation blended perfectly with its stupid written story. I never said the animation was unimportant, but that if the writing sucks, no matter how awesome the animation turns out to be, it’s gonna be an shitty anime.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:51 CDT
I think we have separate definitions of the term “animation” – as occasionally, I use it in reference to moving visuals, and at other times, the medium itself.
“I think GC’s animation blended perfectly with its stupid written story”
I think Guilty Crown’s animation, the moving visual aspect, is part of what made the story seem stupidly written – and this doesn’t mean the aesthetics were of a low quality, it means they weren’t making meaningful contributions, essentially enabling and/or even furthering the story in its spiral downward.
“the writing sucks, no matter how awesome the animation turns out to be, it’s gonna be an shitty anime.”
I don’t disagree – but the animation is the medium telling the story, meaning that if the writing sucks, or in other words, the story is terrible, then the usage of the medium has failed as well. The aesthetics are intended to get across a story.

Gen Urobochi=Great Story
Akira Amano=Great Character Design
Production I.G.=Great Visuals
Egoist=Great Music
This series is destined to be perfect.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:28 CDT
Egoist?
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:41 CDT
I didn’t like any Egoist music – not bad but, not my kind, or so was the case with Guilty Crown.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 13:55 CDT
Well if we only use these 4, then I can name several anime which are “supposedly perfect”. But a closer look would probably tell me otherwise.
Besides that, story and music are opinionated so deeming them good would be inaccurate for some.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 14:16 CDT
That’s true, and I only meant this to be my own personal opinion. You can hate Egoist/Supercell and Gen Urobochi all you want, but I don’t recomment hating Gen Urobochi, because he has written amazing stories to some amazing anime.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 15:13 CDT
I usually like detective anime series and some action. I’m looking forward to this anime soon.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 16:48 CDT
I want a legitimate detective series – the last one of those was Un-Go.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 16:46 CDT
Guns-check
Gen Urobuchi-check
Badass characters-check
not a shonen cliche-check
THIS IS GOING TO BE GREAT
Sep 29, 2012 @ 16:47 CDT
Two episodes were already preview screened in Japan – I’ve been told that:
1.) It’s interesting
2.) It’s reminiscent of Ghost in The Shell
Though obviously not saying much, at least it seems starts fair enough – let’s hope it continues the same way, if not excels beyond that.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 16:56 CDT
two episodes were already screened? where were we?
but really,it’s reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell? I really liked that anime so if it does resemble it then i have to say
it had me hooked, now it has me hooked hard
Sep 29, 2012 @ 17:00 CDT
“but really,it’s reminiscent of Ghost in the Shell? I really liked that anime so if it does resemble it then i have to say
it had me hooked, now it has me hooked hard”
I don’t think that’s a good thing necessarily – first in that resembling Ghost in The Shell requires little more than a nighttime cityscape, and secondly in that people said the same of Guilty Crown.
And this isn’t intended to mean Psycho-Pass will be bad – rather, despite all the key visuals, staff information, and mild PVs, there’s still a significant lack of information on what the series itself involves.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 20:34 CDT
well, it’s still too early to judge as many might say, so let’s just wait until the anime actually comes to pass, for all we know, it might suck like guilty crown, or be at a level where it is considered the jewel of the season , let’s wait and see
Sep 29, 2012 @ 17:55 CDT
“Adults doing adult things.”
Wow, been a long time since we had an anime without children or teenagers!
Really hope it has the same atmosphere of melancholy from Phantom.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 18:03 CDT
Although Kamisama Dolls wasn’t too great – there were a lot of aspects I liked about it, the characters being predominately adults serving as one of them.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 17:56 CDT
The gun must be a character. :)
Sep 30, 2012 @ 3:01 CDT
Hmmm will Production IG redeem itself with this…i do get a Ghost In The Shell feel seeing this preview..but well…let me leave that masterpiece aside..lets just hope this launches Production IG back to its previous glory
Sep 30, 2012 @ 14:13 CDT
Expect all the characters to die by the end. GOD DAMMIT, UROBUCHI.
Sep 30, 2012 @ 21:48 CDT
Dat Gun is giving me Dredd vibes. It’s gonna be awesome!!
