Many aspects of the upcoming action adventure, Magi, are suspicious in whether they will successfully deliver – one facet however which one shouldn’t worry over is the cuteness of the pink-haired slave girl character.
Key visuals have come, and this poverty exposed little girl is already treating her fans to some aesthetic pleasure – minus the eroticism often seen in most anime female artwork, unless of course, one has a fetish for chains and domination. Yet leaving the special interests alone, and focusing solely on the assortment of visage sketches above, destitution has certainly never been so adorable.
Before doting over her moe qualities however, it should be said that the very outer line forming the top of her head, the curve of her hair and skull, is truly beautiful in terms of contour. It defines a believable and realistic head shape – whilst simultaneously drawing the eye to both her facial region, as well as towards the physique below the shoulders, which is exemplified well within the full body illustration below.
Her hair is the initial enticing factor, leading towards the body – and then her remaining finely developing female anatomy from there continues to absorb attention through arches and whatnot.
Depending on what expression the visage exhibits, which is typically the first area of physical reaction, it may also affect or coincide with the posture or pose she looks to have as a whole – an instance of such being seen in the leftmost look of embarrassment on the bottom row of the image above. Her redfaced distress incites her to incline her back much more than she, or anyone else for that matter, normally would – and a multitude of further implications can be grasped from there.
On that note, it looks that this slave girl isn’t all indifference – and she does have some moments within the series where she shows off a charm of femininity beyond appearance, on a sentimental level, which incidentally also goes on to give some visual gratification.
Now as for the series itself, if Magi manages to be as enjoyable as glaring at this slave girl – it will be quite a memorable series. The characters don’t appear to be an issue based on the designs released till now, and neither is the animation a worry as per the PV – hopefully, the plot proves equally solid.

It’s great that she’s so pretty, but why does her dress have to be kinda ugly? It’s much too long.

She’s a slave who is liberated at some point and any more is spoilers.
Though given that she’s a slave, what can you expect.

Unfortunately you will see her in that cloth for long, or even to the end of Anime season.

Can’t speak for the anime, but the manga is one of the best shounens I’ve read in recent years. Last one I read that gave me this feeling was FMA. Hope the GC writer gives this an decent adaptation.

I agree that the story to Magi is amazing, but often I think the art comes off as a little sloppy.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 16:47 CDT
although the art is what makes it unique from any other

It depends what “sloppy” is supposed to mean – the “sloppy” elements could be traits intended to distinguish the Mediterranean setting, as gargamesh basically said.

I’d like her to pick my cotton, if you know what I mean. >:3
But I wonder if she plays a more significant role other than token female character.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 16:14 CDT
I won’t spoil anything, but she is actually a key character very often, and not a “token female character”.

“if you know what I mean.”
No.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 20:25 CDT
But it’s very obvious.
Sep 29, 2012 @ 20:39 CDT
but why cotton?
Sep 29, 2012 @ 21:37 CDT
Try to make the connection between her former occupation and cotton…
