Some instances of artwork have been unveiled for Madoka Magica’s upcoming film, and they do well to show the SHAFT oddities to be present already – Sayaka’s hair ornaments are colossal in the film apparently.
Much like most of what SHAFT does, the reasoning or purpose behind this, as seen within the second image below, is something not particularly apparent upon first glance – or any number of subsequent glances after that, however, it’s certainly nothing unfavorable in any way. This specific trait bestowed upon Sayaka holds the quality of being amusing before anything else – and one must wonder if these hairpins will change sizes throughout the film.

The hairpin is the musical symbol for fortissimo. It symbolizes that a section of music is to be played very loud. Perhaps that is why it is so prominent, loudness is often associated with largeness. It might also symbolize Sayaka’s ‘loud’ passionate personality. I must say, this symbol does fit with her love of Kyosuke’s music and I find this to be a very welcomed costume addition.
