An elemental workshop.

Full-body character artwork has been released for the generic moeblobs of Kyoto Animation’s next upcoming work, “Chuunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai!” – a mix of the usual spectacular, with sub-par heavily woven in.

The characters are painfully bland, just as they have been since their first unveiling to the world – carrying appearance elements and mannerisms which have been copied and pasted straight from the Kyoto Animation vault of proven profitable tropes. However, one must at least praise the usage of variegated backgrounds, with pseudo-elaborate circular patterns, as such basic finesse is indeed quite a rarity in this age of plain cotton and pantsu colors.

Examining the characters, the heroine is the embodiment of overdone banalities to the point her appearance is outright hilarious – although that’s certainly nothing new. The bishoujo beside her is perhaps the most original character in terms of appearance – particularly in that her physical structure is more developed with actual feminine physique in mind, not moeblobs. Similarly, her hair and visage are beautiful – being of a more realistic styling versus something geared to meet fetishes.

Not to mention, her pose isn’t as totally rehashed as the rest – yet even then, all aspects of her considered, the bishoujo characters of Kyoto Animation usually prove unique in general as the studio belittles them in favor of moeblobs. When speaking of Kyoto Animation in the most typical case, there’s around one bishoujo per series at most – whereas the rest will be blobs made up from recyclables of animation character design.

In any case, with any favorable chance, the bishoujo will be a more prominent character of the series – which when paired with the novel action, will make an animation not entirely below the line of average.

I find it funny that the show is mixed of both awesome and clichéd elements. I pretty much agree everything you said in the article due to the fact that whenever KyoAni makes a new series, there’s always a bishoujo who has no blob elements compared to the rest of female cast.
