While the typical edition will come clad with a white-haired bishoujo, a special release of Hidan no Aria’s upcoming 13th light novel will arrive boasting nekomimi on the cover – alongside the ever-prevalent red seifuku.
The artwork isn’t anything phenomenal on a general level, nor is it of the sort to appeal to everyone given how distinctive it appears – however, at least it is true to itself, and well-done in that respect. Nekomimi are rather newfangled for the most part when it comes to Hidan no Aria light novel cover artworks – although the implementation seen here manages to sustain consistence with other faces of the series’ tomes in that they were stylized to fit. They’re not overly intricate – yet keep up the shadow and color traits recognized with the series.
Similarly, some other notable features of Hidan no Aria’s illustrations, beyond technique, are prominent as well – such as the seemingly ubiquitous, implied uplifting motion on the skirt. The skirt itself is also part of a school uniform which is certainly unforgettable as result of its burning red hue – which in this case, incidentally also matches the color of our attractive subject matter’s pupils.
On the note of some splendid smaller details, note the fine yet slight amount of skin exposure around the upper body area – yet moving outward, and returning towards the topic of recurrence, the shapes and artwork overall have a sort of escaping circular flow which is definitely seen across all the Hidan no Aria light novel cover works.
Essentially, aside from cute girls, one aspect the works always seem to contain is a vivid display of energy – and this image is certainly on par with the rest, if not one of the better few thanks to the nekomimi.

I love the artwork, and I love a few characters, but I think it’s a little ridiculous that this has gone on for 13 volumes.

It’s for the sake of pleasing lolicons everywhere. On the plus side they can do it with next to no plot required and still get away with it.

If modern works were properly assessed by the masses as based on quality – it would have been one volume, cancel series, go home.
