Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, an upcoming innovative take on fantasy, romance, and society, has received its first PV – truly setting the atmosphere with its combination of RPG reminiscent medieval sight and sounds.
Contrary to the usual direct focus upon characters, topped with a few slithers of animation seen within most preview clips, the PV for this series seems to play out as if it were an epic film – a basic stage is established, a mood is set, and a hero is introduced. The setting appears to be so incredibly vast and intricate – one can hardly tell if being shown something actually from the animation, or simply a flat illustration.
Yet moving along, one will see the hero meet the heroine – the protagonist comes dashing after the demonic queen, yet with a bit of oppai emphasis, it seems all goals and priorities change. And from there, the video goes on to highlight a variety of characters – and indeed, it can’t help but be noticed that not merely do the visuals appear stunning, yet they’re made in a manner which exhibits a true storybook charm.
The colors seen throughout the PV shift between dark and light accordingly with the mood, as well as the environment – texture of a cloudy nature is heavy on any given object, and the shapes which compose the scenery are all quite abstract, consisting of rough edges and lines. As result of the aesthetic stylings, the series feels quite unreal to witness – the characters are far more vivid than the backgrounds behind them, and this makes them stand out as if they truly were in a dream-like world.
And not forgetting the vibrations either, the theme resonating within the clip sounds lovely from beginning to end – yet it’s particularly within the final stretch, the portion in which the camera beautifully rotates from the bottom and pans upward towards the visages of the two main characters, that the tune then strikes as phenomenal.
Giving reasons or encouragement to watch this series would be quite in vain as it certainly seems to do enough to ensure an audience on its own – and indeed, one can expect this will definitely be a heavy hitter.

I’m not a fan of medieval setting, but this does look interesting. What is it about? And which studio is doing this series?
I kinda like how the background at the castle looks like it was something out of an oil painting. It has a classic feeling to it.

Not the most impressive studio, but they did make Elfen Lied:

And the staff consists of a few from Spice and Wolf.

Oh it’s ARMS…then maybe ‘Not the most impressive studio’ is a bit of an euphemism.
But I still hope they can make a good anime if the original source is good, though the fanservice is unavoidable now.

“is a bit of an euphemism.”
Yes.
The source material is highly popular however, and the director is Takahashi Takeo – so the potential is certainly present.

Haven’t seen a good medieval/fantasy anime in a while so this is getting me excited.

Same here – a plain medieval fantasy setting is something I enjoy more than most.
