An elemental workshop.

Another PV has been released for Bakemonogatari’s PSP variant – now highlighting the little sisters, and seemingly touching upon Nisemonogatari tales, whilst also exhibiting the apparent fighting system of the game.

A solid introduction to imouto is made with some memorable scenes from the TV series – and being narrated atop, one will hear the many lies and nonsense of Shuraragi which all go to zero in credibility upon the events of Nisemonogatari, save for a few details of personal background. Yet either way, it’s doubtful the game will do more than perhaps merely familiarize the player with the little sisters – particularly as this is “Bakemonogatari”, in which they’re on the lower-end of prominence.

Setting the matters of little sisters aside, the focus on the battle system is quite unexpected – it’s clear they considered the limitations of their game and genre, as well as simply other details regarding the mood and atmosphere of Bakemonogatari, resulting in quite a respectable approach to the issue.

Certain characters look to naturally be more susceptible to others – nonetheless, it doesn’t seem all hope is immediately lost. The combat in this game is done verbally, the opposing forces make their assaults in typical turn-based fashion, with the attacks actually serving as no more than selected phrases – each with a possibility to either propel the matter in favor of the player, or simply cause it to collapse atop them.

Debuting on the 23rd of this month, it seems the experience will be much more than any average visual novel.

I haven’t gamed in quite some time; I prefer reading books (not that I’m a hipster for books or anything). But this franchise makes my fingers itch for a PSP; if nothing else it can be stylishly clad in a Mayoi back-pack.

Wouldn’t visual novels be somewhere between manga and anime? You’ll technically keep that streak going if you do it :3

I would have picked this up – but I don’t understand why this is coming to PSP, not PS Vita.
