Amazon JP Announces Top 20 Eroge

Aug 4, 2012 @ 1:13 CDT

Results have arrived for Amazon JP’s poll to determine the eroge with the top scenario – and the number one spot is rightfully taken by a best-seller with much critical acclaim, followed by other respectable titles.

Many rankings end up containing nothing but nonsense – yet it seems eroge is serious business indeed as this assembly is rather solid. White Album 2 takes first place – and for those unfamiliar with the name, it’s a visual novel quite serene yet heavy in feeling, with a very linear plot spread across an “opening” and “closing” chapter. Storywise, there exists a three year gap between the two chapters – and considering how direct the game is in presentation in comparison to most other visual novels, its victory in this polling certainly speaks highly of its premise.

Further, this isn’t beyond the generic praise one would hear of anything exquisite, yet Amazon JP did share a few of the submitted comments alongside the voting – and White Album 2 is apparently regarded as a “beautifully cut masterpiece” with “enthusiastic voice acting”, being a work which is, according to the comments, integral for the future developments of the industry. Each of those claims are quite hefty, although if one is still in disbelief of their justifiable validity, one might as well try the game themselves.

Moving along, in second is “Little Busters! Ecstasy” – which is essentially Little Busters! with added indecency, as well an additional loli character to do illicit deeds with. Then in third, the spot has been taken by “Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~”, which is likely one of the more complex eroges on the list as the story isn’t a single route, but an entire package of assorted perspectives put together to highlight a single instance of time passing.

Fate/Stay Night sits in fourth, and the Fate series’ fame certainly needs no introduction – it’s worth mentioning however that obviously, this visual novel is not all intercourse whatsoever.

As for the remaining list, feel free to examine it below:

1.) White Album 2

2.) Little Busters! Ecstasy
3.) Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~
4.) Fate/Stay Night

Incidentally, this ranking also seconds as a pre-made “to do” list.

  • I’m surprised seeing Fate Stay Night and Saya No Uta in the list. Both of them sure are eroge but the plot overshadows that aspect of those visual novels..still nice to see White Album 2 taking the first spot.

They still have sex scenes and I guess all it takes is for a VN to have those to be CLASSIFIED as eroge.

1 & 2 arent surprizing, however i think that 4 and 13 should switch. but thats just from a bias point of view

Mashiro-iro Symphony definitely has better artwork in terms of bishoujo satisfaction.

Huh. I’d heard of G-senjou no Maou on a top vn site recently. Guess it’s true that it’s a great one, if it’s on Amazon’s top vn list :)

    random lol:
“Persons under the age of 18 can not be purchased” – from google translate for little busters ecstasy page.

Hey this list actually looks pretty legit! A lot of great VN’s made it on. Although I can’t say I’ve got a big database since I’ve only read translated VNs.

im only just falling in love with VN’s… Pretty sure ive only completed Fate Stay on that list. What others where translated to english?

    • blaziken says:

There are Sharin no Kuni, G-Senjou, Saya no Uta, Hoshizora. Also Little Buster, Eustia, Grisaia, Fate/HA, Majikoi are partially translated.
I personally recommend the first 2.

I’m gonna take note of this. It’l be very useful whenever I start another vn (playing Kira Kira atm). Thanks :)

There are also good all-age ones, such as Ever17, Steins;Gates, Umineko. And there are some good titles on DS too, such as 999, Ace Attorney, and even Ghost Trick.

You should go to vndb.org and parse for “english” novels, maybe sort by rating. That will list all translated games. Also a little correction, Eustia only has a demo released unfortunately. It’s an awesome game.
