A number of key visuals from upcoming and highly anticipated anime series, Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, have been released – with the collective not necessarily being extraordinary, though impressive nonetheless.
Looking first at the image above, it specifically highlights the finest features of this series’ artwork – and the foremost of such has to be the color palette. While nearly all the hues seen utilized in this series’ palette of colors are standard to it, they’re a scarcity in most other animations or works in general – and thus, the series already then and there has quite an unorthodox selection of colors which remains highly fitting of the atmosphere.
Now aside from the choice of colors being sublime, they’re also splendid and beautiful in their application – this can be seen on both characters, yet the dress of the lady in particular manages to exemplify the exquisite usage. The tones have a subtle and basic value based gradient, going from dark to light moving upward, which is highly effective – yet more of interest, do note how line has little role. Lines do not define light, light however is what makes color – and the artists accounted for this, resulting in that the characters are composed of shapes of colors.
Again, one needn’t look further than the dress to see a masterful mix of elements – see how there’s different segments of color, the hues are forming assorted shapes, and said shapes come together to make a form, the female as a whole. Where shadow is needed, there’s shapes of a darker shade – and line still has its place, yet only in outlining.
As one examines the illustrations below, it even more so becomes clear how color has a more leading role – meanwhile, the line is kept simple overall, yet made very intricate to ensure that the color which comes afterward is of a similar nature. In other words, the lines are arranged so that the colors can shine – rather than the line, yet the line definitely stays an integral core component in making the characters.
With such grand source material, and wonderful key visuals, this anime is seemingly en route to mass success.
