A key visual has been released for “Kamisama Kiss”, a shoujo manga turned upcoming anime – and the sight of this artwork certainly doesn’t leave any second guessing as to the sort of audience it seeks.
One will surely be able to assess whether this title is one they’d give their time towards or not immediately upon glimpsing at this promotional image – and that’s as the theme is so heavily defined from the start. Those not for feminine male characters obviously won’t find much respite in this series – and neither will those who prefer less modest female characters, action, adventure, or the all the typical tropes and genre spins seen far too frequently.
At least, this series may prove somewhat original, or so one would think – it’s not particularly beneficial if a series steps away from one puddle of the overdone, which would be all the basic stuff littering the modern seasons, like harems, to another pile of recycled trash, a typical shoujo romance mush. Yet that will be a judgment in the hands of whoever is brave enough to dare watch this feathery creation.
Examining the premise for this tale, it’s merely yet another incredibly convenient set of circumstances which places a female in the home of a male – only difference being that it’s delivered from the girl’s perspective. A girl’s father abandoned her to escape his high debt – and this also resulted in that her home was repossessed, effectively leaving her homeless. Then she “saves” a man from a dog – and one cycle of gibberish later, she’s magically become a deity with a bishounen companion.
Overall, it’s quite difficult to see this series favoring anyone’s taste – it wouldn’t appeal to the mainstream of moe loving otaku, nor would it cater to the iron on iron perversion admired by fujoshis.

This just sounds like an inferior version of Inu X Boku…Pass.

Indeed – that’s exactly what it sounds like.

Not really. Inu X Boku and Kamisama Kiss are highly different shows with similar character design motifs. The coincidence and story similarities end with the two main characters of both shows. The personalities and tone of the main cast and plot is different than those of Inu X Boku. For example, the obvious silver haired-fox guy. IXB, Soushi is calm, polite, and an unabashed stalker. Kamisama’s fox is haughty, petty, and easily provoked. Also, Ririchiyo and Nanami have nothing in common but dark hair color (she’s not even a loli). Anyways, there are several stories which are based off of similar folklore and have widely different plots. It’s like comparing Dragon Ball and One Piece, same motifs- completely different execution.
