Sword Art Online apparently has a PSP game upcoming – and the first preview video of the title shows it to be a free-roaming RPG with sub-par graphics, but highly fitting gameplay and concept as anticipated.
Being based around an RPG style of story, it’s not a shock that Sword Art Online has decided to go the route of RPG in place of the typical, and most popular option of visual novel – it’s also not baffling to find that Sword Art Online manages to make the transition into RPG rather well as it was essentially designed with one in mind to begin with. Additionally, it’s not even unusual in the slightest that the visuals for this soon to arrive Sword Art Online RPG look to be hardly at average level – and that’s as most RPG titles based after an anime nearly always have lacking aesthetics.
Basically, it’s overall coming off as quite a “fair” game – one shouldn’t expect anything innovative or groundbreaking of it, this Sword Art Online RPG certainly isn’t going to put Final Fantasy out of business, and it’s hardly even going to satisfy. Although it will sell for sure, and it will more than likely leave fans of the game, alongside perhaps a few others as well, rather pleased with their purchase.
Not much gameplay is shown, although from what little amounts are seen, it’s quite a standard RPG with all the core elements – alongside what may be a real-time sparring system, although one which looks to section off the characters with the creature or opponents, a rather common system of combat.
All in all, a respectable game – though hopefully, the anime hits harder than merely this.

Why am I not surprised.
At least they could wait a little more…

The gameplay reminds me of the Toaru Majutsu no Index PSP game.

You know what, I really hope this ends up being localized. I find the PSP system to be rather lacking in RPGs, to be honest, and I’d really love to play SAO (I guess I fit into the “fans who will be pleased” category).

The PSP isn’t lacking in RPGs, the American game library for it is.

Exactly. Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear but that’s what I meant. Hence the “I really hope this ends up being localized”. It’s a shame that pretty much the only genre I play doesn’t have enough titles (that I can play, that is) to satisfy me. Perhaps I should really learn Japansese…

If you could learn Japanese, there’s no reason not to – though otherwise, you could still play imported RPGs and just try to figure your way through it?
Not ideal, though it’s something.
