A special edition CD of The iDOLM@STER has a cover illustration worthy of recognition for its display of attractive girls in gothic ensemble – one of whom is subject to intense neck biting from her two vampiric friends.
This illustration is certainly more amusing than anything – Hibiki’s being violated in the typical vampire blood-lusting manner by Miki and Takane, both of whom have apparently become vampires somewhere along the line. The focal point of this artwork is the area where Takane’s mouth meets Hibiki’s neck – as it seems no matter what, one’s eyes will be pulled there, and not in the usual manner either. There’s a few details giving this art piece a feeling out of the norm – and quite fitting for a bloodsucking scene.
While Miki isn’t too attached, making it possible for the image to pass as idols pretending to be vampires, then one sees Takane who is, in fact, latched onto Hibiki like some sort of fish – it subsequently leaves one feeling as if looking at something just a little strange, if not more. Yet another facet, one which shows some sort of inner-sadism on part of Takane, is how she grasps the hand of Hibiki – and on that note, one can see that Hibiki’s hands are extended as per a spasm to being gouged of blood.
There’s certainly no explicit implications in this respect – yet the intimate female interactions, complete with touching and mouth meeting body, certainly do well to stir in some more sensual sensations within the artwork.
Yet turning towards a few significant technical aspects instead of delving off into fantasy, lines aren’t particularly defined in this artwork – examining the image close enough, outlines are visible in certain areas, however it’s as if everything has been blended together. The lines subside to shape – and the shapes are filled with color.
Red is the most prominent of the hues bursting forward from this artwork – yet do see that it is an off-set, somewhat faded red, not a deep blood tone, and one of the reasons for this is likely that the girls’ are under an oddly grand amount of light. It can be seen that each idol’s attire is lit up rather intensely in some areas – with a transition to the contrasting shaded portions occurring in both a harder and smooth gradient fashion. In other words, the image specializes in light and shape – intended to imply a surrounding of a dark castle or the likes.
Unsurprisingly, it can be confirmed that the idols are just as desirable when they’re vampires as well.
