Newtype’s female character rankings of July 2012 still cater to Saber at number one – however, there are several drastic twists along the remainder of the list, with positives even outweighing the negatives.
Kyoto Animation’s latest moeblob, Chitanda, has come from nowhere to steal the second spot from their original moeblob, Yui – who has now been dropped to sixth place. This turn is events is more amusing than anything as any and all moeblobs are difficult to take seriously – and while none of them deserve to be given much prestige at all, thankfully Saber seems impervious to any moeblob assaults.
The worthless pink character of Guilty Crown has fallen from third to seventh in what will, hopefully, result in her eventual removal from the chart – she’s nowhere near worthy of any sort of recognition, though incidentally, neither is the one who has replaced her spot, Accel World’s generic butterfly tsun character. Yet on a more positive note, the creeping cuteness has elevated to fourth on this fruitless indicator of popularity – in an ideal scenario, Nyaruko would reach the top position by next month, although in reality, it’s doubtful if she’ll ever go beyond fourth.
Unfortunately, most of the participants of this ranking fail to understand the Nyarlathotep charm – thus even if a solid portion of these usually misled individuals have finally seen the light, they remain outnumbered by a legion of fools who will inevitably vote up any lesser shounen series females or other lacking anime girls on the conscious or unconscious basis of their association with an extensively hyped series, even if the series in question, like the girl, is dull, absent of charm, and less than spectacular.
As for more neutral developments, Azunyan has slipped to nine, falling a single space, and Eureka 7 AO is gradually infecting the list – both items being not particularly worth complaint, yet neither something to rave over either. Azunyan is quite lovable – yet her series ended several years ago, it’s time to move on.
