Key visuals of a five character crew from Shinsekai Yori have become available – exhibiting there to surprisingly be more males than females, and some overall respectable yet not phenomenal illustrations.
While not transcendental, these sketches are certainly above average – the lines are fine and well-considered which is notable with each of the many expressions showcased above. The girl makes a multitude of faces – and one can see how her hair impressively manages to respond to meet the sentiment while being as short as it is. Her visage of troubled surprise in the very top right is met with hair which strikes outward – establishing a notion of implied movement, which also beautifully coincides with her other physical gestures.
The dramatic angling of her neck shows a head tilted in a sudden motion – all the while, one can see how her back arcs out, displaying that she’s already in a work oriented position prior to someone calling on her and adding another level of worries to her day. And it is worth recognizing her hand which is a clear as day telltale of a female in a frantic state – fingers spread apart with uncertainty.
It’s not so much that Shinsekai Yori’s character designs seem lacking in any way – rather, they’re simply absent of the exoticism seen in many other recent series, which isn’t a negative whatsoever, it merely goes to show the elegance present with its artwork as its characters are of a refined state, albeit with such little extravagance. A fine method to describe it would be “modestly eloquent”.
Now ideally, the anime will prove either superior or no different in class.

This is useful if you’re interested in drawing doujinshi.

Indeed, quite useful – although usually drawing the lines isn’t as simple as it may seem.
