Coincidentally coinciding with the PV of another doujin work – a much revered Touhou animation, “Fantasy Kaleidoscope“, has received a fresh preview which surpasses a slew of fully professional animations.
Fantasy Kaleidoscope is perhaps the most respected of the doujin Touhou anime efforts, and watching the PV below, one will quickly see why – for a fan based attempt at animation, it certainly not only succeeds, yet it exceeds. Starting the video will behold a scene in which the camera pans delicately in differing directions as various moments intermix – focusing on a variety of characters concurrently, and to a resonating yet gentle melody.
At the 30 second mark, a scene moving swiftly through a thicket of bamboo will have one stunned by sheer beauty – the shadow application in particular being top-class, and then as the PV continues to progress, one will see the striking intricacy and abundance of detail which flourishes upon every second to transpire of this clip.
For instance, a night sky is speckled marvelously with glimmer as moonlight beams down – and then the sight of a purely dream-like fantasy venue will have one taken aback from not merely the clear animation expertise being showcased, yet the loyal adherence to the mood and setting of the Touhou series.
And on that note, the characters have been recreated in an anime format spot-on and superbly – one can hardly believe how this was possibly achieved, specifically when taking notice of how the lighting and other natural elements, like wind, react upon the characters as if they truly stood within this dimension we see exhibited. Each aspect of this video is streamlined – both the more technical matters such as music correspondence to video, as well as the actual media contents. Not to mention, each component is of a potent caliber of quality as well.
The other ventures to animate Touhou are commendable in their own right, yet Fantasy Kaleidoscope can secure an anxious audience, Touhou fan or not, through a sharp and polished presentation – ultimately leaving a whole flood of individuals raging with delightedly burning desires for more of this doujin anime series.

I really enjoyed the first episode, which in itself finished off quite well as solid recreation of the incident that took place in Touhou 7. This one is A little more confusing for myself as it seems to follow Touhou 9, one of the games I’m least familiar with in terms of story (i.e. I’ve never played the game as it’s my least favourite).
Nonetheless, the PV was spectacular, and I hope it lives up to the hype =)

I remember glowing reviews of this new studio of fans. First Effort: Otaku no Video….people were ecstatic over it. Next Effort: Wings of Honneamise (which got funding from Bandai). Next Big Effort: Neon Genesis Evangelion.
I love the story of the otaku turned professional. It tells you so much of what you need to know of human nature. It’s a roller coaster out there.

Despite my obviously mixed comment, this does look spectacular.

In the case of anything Touhou related however, I doubt it will go beyond being a doujin work – that’s part of what makes the series, it’s extensively ridiculous doujin popularity.
