Another penny in the fountain, an obnoxiously long-lettered imouto incest anime is coming soon, “Onii-chan dakedo Ai sae Areba Kankei nai yo ne” – and if it weren’t for one specific trait, there’d be no reason to care.
Silver Link’s missing link
This upcoming animation is from a studio mastered in the arts, Silver Link – yet before going on about their aesthetic expertise, an aspect intriguing about Silver Link’s creations, in terms of story, is that they’re quite unusual. Silver Link’s last two contributions to society for instance, C3, and the currently ongoing Tasogare Otome X Amnesia, both undeniably have tales which diverge from the conventional greatly – even if still sporting some more commonly seen tropes, like busty bishoujo characters, which are quite inevitable.
However, another facet to keep in mind with Silver Link is that although their visuals are of unmatched quality, and their animations are centered around fairly original stories, Silver Link has yet to make a name for themselves in pulling off a successful, and fully well-executed anime – reason being they have trouble taking a script from start to finish.
Yet Silver Link is still holding up decently with Tasogare Otome – and there’s two more items to explore before diving into the resplendent visuals of theirs. First of all, Silver Link has recently been named responsible for quite a few series – their output frequency has been on a sudden rise, and it’s as if their gears are starting to rotate at twice the power. Now secondly, a soon to arrive series of the summer season which Silver Link is in charge of is Kokoro Connect – and this happens to be a heavily anticipated anime all around.
Silver Link did improve during the transition from C3 to Tasogare Otome – and with the eagerly sought Kokoro Connect, the third time’s the charm perhaps? And assuming so, this means Silver Link will have effectively left the airport – taking flight towards the clouds and beyond.
If Silver Link achieves such a skill level in script execution, that could result in this latest project of theirs, name shortened to “Oniai”, to be quite a critical success.
Bittersweet possibilities
While their story presentation hasn’t been ideal, Silver Link has however been absolutely untouchable in their aesthetic prowess. Silver Link plays with diverse art styles like it has them all on the back of its hand – noticeable in Tasogare Otome, and C3 as well, the studio intermixes an astonishing variety of color palettes, patterns, angling, mediums, and techniques. One scene may be faux-water color, the other may be fine lined elegance rivaling the greatest masterpieces to have been made.
Indeed, in respect to pure aesthetics, Silver Link’s dominance is definite.
And thus unsurprisingly, their elite artistry is noticeable in the stunning character designs for Oniai – the skin tone values are perfected, gentle neutrals with appropriate color mixing and lighting reaction where necessary. The females follow the modern standard of blushing constantly – and Silver Link had the faint red of the blush so delicately blended in through gradient.
Hues of defining features, such as eyes, hair, and miscellaneous fashion accessories are all unique – Silver Link understands and takes advantage of a basic artist concept most studios do not for whatever reason, they mix their own colors, and never use anything plain as-is. To see a delightful example, move your attention towards the delicious blonde haired treat:
Her hair is not a generic blonde, but a delectable variance of two homemade yellows – a more golden, darker accent, alongside a lighter banana color. And both of these hues smoothly shift in spectrum to one another – showcasing a stream of assorted yellow off-sets in the process.
This beautiful female’s eyes aren’t merely “blue” – but a shade reminiscent to the sky with cloudy white highlights. The extensive effort and intricacy of Silver Link’s artwork shows – and it certainly pays off, as well as rewards. One should be grateful for these gorgeous visuals indeed.
Going outside of color, there’s a flavorful sense of depth applied – and this foreshortening effect is further met with impeccable shadow work. The girl is covered with positively flawless value – and this can be spotted all over her seifuku, under her breasts, and the bottom portion of her legs. The eyes can almost cry at the overwhelming elegance and refinement of this female’s illustrative qualities – and she’s but a single character of several more in this series.
That’s simply giving an abridged admiration – one could continue onward at how dazzling her expression is, or how sublime her proportions and pose appear to be, yet the idea should be well-understood by now.
Not an imouto route, the imouto’s route
Silver Link is steadily finding their ground, they’re full of potential in delivering a splendid anecdote – and when it comes to the arts, they’re above all. Taking that into account, and looking to the synopsis of this latest series they’re to deploy – it’s a tale following a sibling pair of two. A fellow and his sister, who formerly lived separate as result of having been split after their parents’ death, now live together once more – all alone, in the same home.
Unshockingly, romantic feelings sprout – the heroine, an imouto to her brother, has a nii-chan complex, meaning that basically, she loves her brother. The twist which labels this one apart from other onii-chan love stories however is that the little sister heroine of this story isn’t afraid to hide her incestual lust – and also unlike most series, the male lead, her brother, does reject her, yet he does so realistically.
Our male protagonist doesn’t become excessively dramatic in the disgustingly overseen manner of reaction of many other male characters who act as if they’re lethally allergic to females.
Each sibling has their stance decided in this anime – however, the story progresses around this one detail, the imouto does not give up. This spells infinite chance for the tale of Oniai to go down all sorts of routes – from the more imaginable, to those likely not even foreseen just yet.
Conclusion
If Silver Link can get their storytelling capabilities to meet their aesthetic mastery half-way, if no further, this anime could in fact prove to be something amazing in every sense of the word. This series is to debut sometime in 2012, presumably autumn season – and till then, one should keep an eye on Tasogare Otome, as well as Kokoro Connect. Silver Link might manage a pleasant surprise as time flies till the launch of this anime.

At this rate I can’t see this turning out bad. The art direction is almost guaranteed to be good and although the market is getting saturated with obnoxiously long anime titles with incest, there’s hardly a benchmark to top.
IMO Oreimo was decent but was sorely lacking in anything eventful (particularly lacking yandere), OniZenZen isn’t worth a mention, KissxSis delivers what’s written on the box and only Yosuga no Sora comes to my mind as a memorable incest anime (and a well executed transition from visual novel to anime).
Reading this and thinking further, Oinai will have a lot to offer.

Exactly, the only way this anime can fail is if Silver Link doesn’t improve their storytelling ability before the series is produced – otherwise, everything else is quite favorable, and there’s little to compete with in respect to achieving something actually of quality.
Ore no Imouto is sure splendid in its own right, although it’s more the standard for generic of these imouto romance titles – and this series is interesting in that it doesn’t attempt to chase it, yet develop its own premise.

Looks like the Mayo Chiki! character design. Shall we count the days until censor steam or BD release?

Reminiscent to Mayo Chiki in a few respects indeed, namely the combo of pose, attire, and seifuku for a certain character – although overall these are far more refined.
Nothing less than high definition will be accepted.
