As is common routine, a vote has been completed which scoped otaku for the top ongoing series of the current ongoing season – Fate/Zero doesn’t sit first, however the entry which does instead is respectable.
The results of many thousands of votes:
1.) Hyouka
2.) Fate/Zero
3.) Accel World
4.) Sankarea5.) Haiyore! Nyaruko
6.) Sakamichi no Appollon
7.) Saki -episode of side A-8.) Space Brothers
9.) Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Of The Dead
10.) Kuroko no Basket
Hyouka and Fate/Zero are immensely different titles, not sharing any single aspect whatsoever – thus it is challenging, if not impossible, to earnestly align them side-by-side, compare, and decide on one over the other. Regardless of Hyouka being as amazing as it is visually, Fate/Zero remains by far more elaborately animated and composed a series – however the reason Hyouka stands atop in the ranking remains all too understandable, and one should also note, it is only by a mere 14 vote difference.
There’s likely many out there, perhaps a handful females for instance, who find preference in Hyouka due to the romantic bits, and the sparkly eyed moeblob – facets which wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say, better capture their interests than an island transforming to become full of vampires and mass-death subsequently ensuing.
That’s not to say every girl thinks the same – yet on a general level, it is understandable as to how Hyouka can match Fate/Zero in an opinionated online poll. If there’s any surprise, it is how Accel World ranked atop Sankarea – incidentally, this feature suggests that there just may have been an excess of female voters after all, as males would definitely have tilted towards the zombie bishoujo boasting splendor which is Sankarea.
Yet again, the margin defining victory and the overall positions on the list isn’t one too extravagant – Accel World’s success over Sankarea is by a mere 18 votes, and while that doesn’t sound like much, do consider that prior to that 18 vote lead, Accel World first actually had to match Sankarea’s batch of hundreds of votes, and then proceed to best it by another 18.
With all appropriately taken into account, regardless if one disagrees with the list, which is actually quite agreeable overall, the outcome remains fascinating – more so than the usual “top 10 etc.” rankings even.

Ok, that’s effed up to me, Hyouka being #1 instead of Fate Zero. Why more moe love?

Interesting list..Hyouka topping Fate/Zero is expected. KyoAni, high school club, classical music, implied “mysteries”, low-energy protagonist, token bubbly dude friend and an eccentric female lead. Hard for it not to be popular.
Disappointing KoreZombie is 9th, I’m finding it funnier than any other show. Accel World’s popularity isn’t surprising, sadly.

My feelings are exactly mutual – Kore wa Zombie was much better than I anticipated, and unlike most harems, it’s not generic, it’s brilliant. The series ridicules itself and common tropes – it’s definitely worthy of more respect.
Similarly, I felt it was expected for Hyouka to be first – and likewise, Accel World despite being as lacking as it is, surprises me not where it stands on the ranking.

So Kore wa Zombie is worth watching then? After reading your first few episode reviews, I stopped watching…
My favourite anime of the season are the top 4 :)

If you like nonsense and moe, it is.

The only show on there that I’m watching is Hyouka. I’m loving Jormungand, Tsuritama, and Hunter X Hunter (which I never saw the original) right now. I may pick up Accel World though.

I can’t exactly say I recommend Accel World.

I can see Nyaruko being #1 due to the references to Kamen Rider, Gundam, and etc
