An interview with the director of the film reveals that Madoka Magica’s movie premiere is to be within autumn of this year – a time actually not too far off as its merely a matter of an anime season and a half away.
It was already known to be set for this year, yet now a more specific time frame is in place – and of course, Madoka’s adventure is a series which definitely has a ton of momentum moving forward. One has to almost feel that, for better or worse, Madoka is perhaps a series that defines animation of a new era – much like other legendary titles have done so in the past, Madoka is doing so now as its regime is taking hold of every medium and dominating with relative ease.
Magical girls of the modern age are certainly quite scary.

There’s so many high profile movies coming this year – and while Madoka does have my attention, I’m more eager for Patema Inverted.

Remake of the original series or a sequel or a prequel — or the dreaded reborquel?

The thought of a reborquel has me horrified, but I hope SHAFT doesn’t shaft us.

Looks like the movie is part one of a trilogy, of which the first two are remakes, but the 3rd is original. So it’s partial remake and partial sequel. :)

You know what that means…

I think the anime industry had caught on how effective anime movie releases are. They’d rather use the main series as a bait to lure viewers to the cinema, so the income would be directly distributed to the studios themselves, and not to the television channels or whatnot. Smart move, and I approve, since the quality in movies are always topnotch too.

An overall nice tactic indeed – and one can definitely see it taking effect this year especially, there’s more anime films anticipated now than ever. Even this very month, Strike Witches is going to hit the screens.
