The official site of Madoka Magica’s upcoming online browser based RPG has released a rather spectacular artwork of our mahou shoujos – yet it may be doing more than merely showing off attractive girls.
As one can see above, the artwork gorgeously highlights our five characters – yet considering that this artwork comes from the sight of a soon to be RPG, could the image be more intending to highlight five different classes of character? This is no more than speculation – yet we’re led to think so, context of the image aside, due mainly in part to how the illustration is structured itself. The girls stand side-by-side, fading off into the distance, each with their respective weapon drawn and ready for battle.
It’s an arrangement quite akin to something one would anticipate to see in an MMORPG’s concept art. If the girls themselves were the main focus, one would have thought they’d all be exhibited in a manner more playful and dynamic – without any perspective effect. Yet it’s clearly not so much an artwork for indulging in the moment as it is to portray some sort of mechanics or intentions.
Madoka, who serves as the main subject matter of the image, has her bow set so that it’s in the absolute foreground – nothing else comes before her weapon. And come to think of it, some other weapons may be either a bit more, or just as emphasized as the characters – particularly Mami’s musket, or Sayaka’s sword.
Different options are given to the onlooker by the artwork, the varying classes of mahou shoujo, whilst the art also provides one with their goal, to fight – it’s a piece embedded with quite a bit of motivational meaning, albeit inclined to a product.

You are forgetting the best weapons that is even more into the foreground. Those knee highs. You can do some damage with those…

Mami has some dangerous guns, and I don’t mean the muskets.

awesome. But I was just sad that Homura’s shield is not as spectacular, even though for a fact that she has the most awesome power in the anime. Wow, I registered just to say that >.<

I agree about her shield – and on another note, you’re certainly welcome to say a lot more on whatever you want. It’d be shame if you only commented once and disappeared.

I won’t, Seven. You can count my word on that. I was reading the Madoka news stuff like a boss. If I’m not commenting, I most certainly am reading.
