Papakiki Specializes In Sleepy Lolis

Mar 6, 2012 @ 17:11 CST

Ninth episode of Papakiki brings neither oppai nor ice cream as previously seen – instead featuring a heartwarming segment devoted to the blonde loli as she goes on a date with the well-mannered womanizer.

Starting straight into the slice of life action, it appear the day has come where the tsundere and 10 year old loli start their school life once more. The two learn the hassles of inter-city travel as they’re taken for a rough hour and a half train ride. Throughout their rail based adventure, they’re packed in with a massive group of individuals – which is of course very unpleasant as they’re smushed together. And making the experience much worse for the 10 year old is that her shoe is accidentally stepped on – which aside from inducing pain, results in a ruined shoe.

Arriving at school, Miu still attempts to persevere despite the less enjoyable bits of travel – and even though she’s truly bothered by the damage to her footwear, being a fashionable young girl and all, she still carries on. We’re shown how Miu’s return to school plays out – and it seems that Miu has changed in the eyes of others. Her classmates are somewhat familiar with her circumstances, and so they pity her as she does things which she apparently never used to do prior – such as sleep or do homework in class.

Miu hears their gossip, but doesn’t idle too deeply on it – however as others notice her scuffed shoe, mentioning how usually Miu comes always perfectly dressed, it seems that now has Miu taken a slight hit.

As school has concluded for the day, Miu heads to the train station – yet instead of returning home, she calls her tsundere sister to request permission to come home late. The blonde loli mentions she wanted to simply walk around – noticeably acting unusual compared to her typical energetic outlook, yet it seems she merely has her mind occupied in thought. Before she heads anywhere, she encounters our hero’s mostly normal friend Nimura.

Perhaps feeling it isn’t safe to leave a loli alone, or maybe sensing she’s not in her regular mood, if not simply feeling willing to treat a loli, Nimura proposes to the loli a date – and thus the two end up going around to various places at Nimura’s expense. And in respect to Nimura, this event further exhibits the extent to which kindness is found within his personality as during his short Cinderella evening with Miu, he offers to purchase anything she’d like on several occasions.

However most wonderful to see of all is how he picks up on Miu’s worry – Miu’s concern was portrayed in a fashion natural, to which Nimura managed to notice with relative ease, and suggest he solve by purchasing Miu some new shoes. She’s appreciative, yet denies the proposed gift. Nimura however ultimately has her shoes restored – and the loli finally admits her worries, all of which are solved through some generic speech of self-reassurance by Nimura.

This ends as a fairly serene episode which closes all which it opens – save for the more subtly implied fact that the well developed 10 year old has a crush on our main character.

This one is gonna be missed when it is over. Must needs an S2. I called this Daaaaaaw: the Anime for a reason, this episode exemplifies that in such a dignified and warm manner. I didn’t really think Sora had a rival that close to her. Nice revelation.

Miu is lucky IMO in this adaptation. In her manga (the shoujo one, with little fanservice), most of her female classmates are jealous of her and belittle her every chance they get.
