Beloved 2-D females from many a series are deformed down to size in this gallery of chibi anime girls – those who find themselves fond of girls more minuscule than mere lolis will certainly experience enjoyment.
Chibi exists to satisfy the epitome of cuteness a certain character can offer – it captures every aesthetically lovable aspect of a character and molds it into a rounded blob of humanoid anime adorability. Much unlike many other anime artwork themes, particularly those centered around the finer points, or assets, of females, chibi simply does not contribute anything to the tastes of ecchi and ero – it is a style strictly of something you’d want to hug and squeeze viciously like a kitten.
It’s a style obviously simple, yet of course there’s more than meets the eye – several key ingredients of the chibi character are a gigantic spherical head with a facial expression formed of simple pattern and shape. One can see in the image above how basic her visage is formed together – three lines on each cheek to indicate embarrassment, whilst her eyebrows are but a single streak of thin line.
The uniform is very watered down in shape – it’s not one of the heavily detailed or intricate style expected to be seen on original illustrations of the same girl, Shana of appropriately titled Shakugan no Shana.
Colors only consist of a few tones from a tiny pallet – two shades of green, two shades of grey, red, black, and a purplish grey are what compose her outfit, shoes and stalkings, eyes, and hair respectively. The way in which she looks back at us irritatingly is quite a nice touch as it grasps our hearts with a sight sweeter than the slab of bread she eats.
Having the addition of the edible substance in her mouth is very nice to the core concentration of chibi as it makes her seem like no more than a mouse. The fact that the meager piece of bread towers over her as well is an excellent method of devising depth and perception – ensuring she comes off as no more than a diminutive treat of moe.
Even better does it all get however as the artist decided to implement some appealing patterns on the bread to assist with balance of negative space – as well as an ornate background behind our dear chibi girl to assist her in standing out as the focal point. This works wonderfully has the background is a darker green, complementing the blood red of her eyes – yet also sustaining harmony with her uniform.
