Black Rock Shooter To Surpass Itself?

Nov 1, 2011 @ 5:03 CDT

With the upcoming January 2012 debut of the heavily awaited Black Rock Shooter anime, we’re curious as to what the series boasting two hot high school female characters equipped with massive weapons can do.

Despite if one were to reflect on the Black Rock Shooter OVA, a mere fragment of the past now, we remain unsure as to what we truly will receive with Black Rock Shooter as it has now been revived as a full featured anime series. Courtesy of noitaminA does the series come, and a mere eight episodes will it bear for us to enjoy – yet we remain questioning what these unconventional counted total of eight episodes will hold for the otaku eagerly in wait.

The Black Rock Shooter OVA was quite impressive with a seemingly straight forward synopsis which didn’t take long in dropping into realms of dark confusion. In the beginning, it started off acquainting us with the high school female heroine by the name of Mato Kuroi – a girl joyed at her recent acceptance into a renowned institution. A certain classmate then catches her eye on this very first day of school – Yomi Takanashi.

Though coming to form an unusual bond, the two females came to spend quality time together – evolving into a friendship which goes a little over what the term could describe.

Unfortunate as it was, with the second year started, Mato and Yomi had received separated classes – weakening their bonds of friendships as they were each segregated from their compassionate companion. As that continued, Mato made a new friend. Subsequently, Yomi grasps sight of this “betrayal”. Becoming envious of her as she’s left lonely and abandoned in dejection. Yomi then decides to transfer into a realm of darkness and start taking revenge.

None of that takes place so swiftly under the radar however, Mato notices a bad spirit whilst chatting with her new buddy within the classroom. She wants to of course save her friend from this threatening fate which seems to be encircling them – thus, a transition takes place into that which one cannot logically comprehend. She becomes a sort of supernatural character, stylishly dressed, with an equally avant garde weapon – a piece which proves to easily bring about mass destruction.

At this moment, a transgression takes place – friendship can no longer be found for either it seems until one of them meets their death, both having become engulfed by a new entity. Mato seeks out her greatest of friends, Yomi, determining that to save one, a deathmatch shall ensue between them until the unspecified truth comes clear.

With the conclusion of that, we’re left here. Abandoned no differently than Yomi as the true ending of the matter was never brought to light. Yet now however, the anime series is coming – and questions in mind are of course as to whether it will be a continuation or a completely unrelated take on the story.

It’s not too difficult to see within the PV below that it appears to revolve around the origin of the tale, the start of a contemporary story once more which deviates ever so slightly, yet significantly from the OVA in terms of plot and even visuals for that matter. A megane wearing Dead Master?

Recapping the OVA will certainly allow us to foreshadow and predict some probable occurrences of the soon-to-air series – a pre-airing analysis which allows our minds to run wild, however we can only for the best in the end. An improved take on a previously attempted anecdote with some ultramodern implementations. New weapons, characters, and circumstances – a situation in which we couldn’t possibly have foreseen in which Mato must overcome to save her friend.

Speculation aside, the trailer treats us to a small sampling of our female protagonist pair’s childhood contents. Mato and Yomi’s childhood memories would offer us additional “reasoning” behind whatever may had happened. Although we already know why Yomi turned evil was a result of a saddening loneliness, the anime may contain more to the story – an unseen third perspective.

Certainly disappointing is it the series will only have a meager amount of eight episodes total – yet hopes are high, well above the stars and any visible constellations in the sky for major success on this one. What remains is a waiting game where one can only wish it truly will surpass these currently unsatisfied expectations of ours.
