Homura’s Pistol Replicated & On Sale

Oct 20, 2011 @ 18:24 CST

Although they’ve been elaborately described in doujins, little did otaku expect to actually be able to own one of Homura’s weapons – this M92FS Beretta comes branded with the mahou shoujo in mind.

As you may recall, the incredibly popular time-traveling friend saver HomuHomu had a signature pistol in hand throughout the anime – that pistol is a M92FS Beretta. The pistol itself is nearly as popular as Homura – having been officially adopted by the US Army, and is featured in a variety of other entertainment works, not to mention it’s widely used by military and police globally in general. And of course, it is used by our favorite magical girl, Akemi Homura.

The pistol is a near perfect replica of Homura’s weapon – sporting every detail as seen in the anime, assuming you can see any detail on the weapon for that matter. In any case, it boasts a matte black paint finish expected of the gun – yet has a colorful character grip formed with heavyweight plastic consisting of heavy density resin, and a differing image on each side. The heat packing Homura comes on one end of the pistol – whilst the other bears the not nearly as beloved incubator, Kyubey.

All aspects of the pistol have been done with the actual firearm in mind – the weight is 1kg, a near match with the realistic counterpart, and the gun has been specially designed to offer the same shooting experience. It takes advantage of low-pressure gas to fire BB pellets – yes unfortunately, your 28,350 yen ($369 USD) will only get you a BB gun.

Even with the high price and lack of meaningful purpose, you can expect otaku are beyond a shadow of a doubt planning to purchase this over-priced novelty item regardless.

I think the coolest fact about the gun is that fact that its a Beretta, which was the favored gun manufacture of James Bond 007 until he and Q switched out his compact Beretta 418 for a Walter PPK (7.65mm if you wanna get in to specifics there). Although the guns were small, Bond had used them with great proficiency.

Although the M92FS is obviously bigger and better due to more modern manufacturing processes when compared to the 418, you could call me a fan of any fire arm Bond would have brandished at his side.

While an exact replica of the Beretta that Homura used is seriously cool, I wouldn’t buy it since I wouldn’t be able to take it down to the gun range without having my ass kicked? Is it because of the customized gun grip? No, its because its a BB gun and wouldn’t feel as powerful in your hands. I’d rather own an “actual” gun.
