Originally seen at Comiket 80, a doujin about girls playing percussion instruments is now finally circulating around Akihabara’s shops – the cover is deliciously adorned with sexy girls in serafuku dress and drums.
First of all, the skilled circle responsible for this work, 15th floor, prove themselves to radiate with the essence of mastery as the cover strikes onlookers with awe in a flash. Before even looking inside, one can see the character designs are gorgeous as the girls spicing up the front cover are stunningly beautiful – they’re illustrated with fine lines of immense detail, clear and specific shadow work, and effective usage of vibrant neutral colors.
Their outfits are so ridiculously refined, one can only gaze distractedly in astonishment whilst drooling to appropriately convey their thoughts on the lovely sight. The gold trim of their sailor outfits shines brilliantly in a monochromatic fashion on their tops and skirts – made even more so harmonically dazzling as it fittingly balances out with the lush gold of their hair. The cover in fact contains two pairs of complementary schemes as the vivid yellow works with the pastel purple in the titling – as does the natural green ribbon with the overlapping pink.
Once one leaves a heavenly daze resulting from the sight of greatness, they open the book to find the author’s introduction to TON volume 1 The Percussion. The mastermind states “I’m playing the drums as a hobby, and have absolutely no knowledge of non-drum percussion instruments” – thus inspiring him to write and illustrate this work simply out of sport and devotion to his crafts.
A grand total of nine percussion instruments from varying countries are featured being played by uniquely cute girls – alongside legitimately useful and interesting information on the instrument in question.
For those otaku who have never taken a simple music course andhave been wondering this entire time “what the heck is a percussion instrument”, Wikipedia thankfully defines it quite well for you:
A percussion instrument is any object which produces a sound when hit with an implement or when it is shaken, rubbed, scraped, or otherwise acted upon in a way that sets the object into vibration.
This work is definitely a work of art amongst doujinshi – we’re very excited to see that it is labeled “volume 1″ indicated we can expect to see more later on.

I don’t recall ever having seen anime girls in band uniforms prior to this.

Ah, but even if there were, the magnificent beauty to which the artists at 15th floor were so gracious in bestowing upon us is such that any such memory would be blotted out, painted over if you will, by this dazzling display.
