Retro Touhou 8-Bit Pixtone Figures

Sep 11, 2011 @ 10:54 CDT

Doujin sensation Touhou makes a fraction of its full cast’s appearance under the Pixtone line of figures – a series of 8-bit pixelized recreations of the characters, quite visually entertaining for the value.

As is clearly can be seen, the highly adored Touhou Project crew has been watered down to the sheer essence of their being. That is perhaps one of the more rewarding aspects of this simple line of figures – it captures all of the key characteristics which make a character unique as an individual through its architecture of nothing but miniature squares.

Showcased in the image above are Reimu, Chen, Suika, Ran, Yuyuko, Yukari, and Youmu, from the bottom up and repeated. Indeed this set is not very pleasing through sexually enticing curves of a female as most are, however it is rewarding for those who truly appreciate the characters for who they are at a more interpersonal level.

The masterminds of this 8-bit affair, Good Smile Company, mention the figures to be “approximately 40mm in height” – alongside a total of “8 figures to collect including one secret figure”. Fans of the series may have no trouble guessing this “secret figure” could perhaps very well be Cirno.

If the previously released Black Rock Shooter pair of Pixtone figures are any indication, one can expect these to run around $8 USD retail. These are to be debuting September of this year – though Play-Asia is unfortunately not carrying these as they are with the Black Rock Shooter line. However if one is honestly interested, they should easily have no trouble finding these on eBay if they periodically check through September.

The only catching my interest is miss Youmu Konpaku, since she easily became my favorite Touhou character the first time I laid my eyes on her… that sounded pretty creepy.

Actually that sounds pretty normal – although none of my favorite Touhou characters are here, I quite like Ran, Yuyuko, Yukari, mainly for their vivid colors. If I did buy a figure of my favorite Remilia Scarlet however, it certainly would not be 8-bit.

I honestly adore these 3D 8-bit figures, since they’re pretty much a throwback to the olden days of gaming, in which is was all 2D, which I love. I would defiantly Youmu if I hadn’t bought this new laptop and evangelion movie artbook recently.

You can never own enough anime figures – I’m sure you can ideally find it at a respectable price on eBay sooner or later after its release.

I absolutely ADORE these! I hope that we can get them on Play-Asia at least at some point. I would really like to get the Suika Ibuki figure in particular. I just love her clumsy personality. Drunken loli’s, we need more of them =)

Play-Asia hasn’t been authorized to carry these, I’m not too sure why. It may also be too late for that to change – the figures are to be released this month which is quite too late a time for them to stock these now.
