As was only a matter of time, ninth episode of reverse trap action anime The iDOLM@STER points its spotlight on the series’ hyper twin lolis Ami and Mami as they investigate the death of a pudding dessert.
The tragic episode begins first with Ryuuguu Komachi as they appear to be taking part in a drama series – the girls finish up their acting and they head back to their bishoujo lair, 765Pro. Whilst en route, Iori makes mention of an unworldly edible treat entitled “Gorgeous Celeb Pudding” which riles up all the girls, specifically the other loli more childish loli of the idol group Ami.
Once they arrive, they’re met with the horrors of a missing dessert – it’s nowhere to be found and has disappeared without a trace. Mami now joins forces with her sister, an equally energetic and overly immature girl, to solve the case of the missing pudding with a ridiculous Engrish name for sake of sounding cool to a Japanese audience. As a side-note, the non-native language sounds rather “cool” in context both ways however – thus we find ourselves using terms like “loli” in our discussions.
With the loli detective unit on the case, they begin their investigations by questioning every member of 765Pro until they have a lead. Through their overwhelming tactics, they manage to find themselves right on top of the trail of mystery – forcefully seeking answers from Yayoi, Makoto, and finally Yukiho, until their crime solving squad is split up by the chief (Ritsuko) due to some “internal affairs” (Ami has a radio broadcast job with Ryuuguu Komachi).
In the meantime, Mami continues her inquisition with the lowly amateur private eye P-san. Before being seperated, the loli detective duo found a collapsed Yukirin mumbling “Hibi” – this prompts Mami to stakeout the last known location of Hibiki with P-san. Unfortunately they prove to be all too late as Hibiki had already fled the scene.
What ensues afterwards is a silly mishap over the radio in which Mami and Ami somehow take the situation several levels out of proportion and for a mere moment it appears Mami’s light of life was to be extinguished by a rather sadistically seductive Takane – though that is no more than a misunderstanding.
Everyone involved finally comes together to review the matter and finally, many circles within circles later they come to conclude the masterminds of the vicious unforgiving crime were none other than the finger-pointers.
We’re likely to be repeating ourselves at this point, yet that is because The iDOLM@STER is simply recurring with excellence on a weekly basis. The series delivers a unique circumstance each time around, centered on a different particular character. These episodic occurrences are not just original to the series, but to anime in general – even the more typical of events are played out through The iDOLM@STER’s own creative interpretation, a great example being the thrilling charade of this episode.
The outcome was actually quite unexpected – as the series rapidly jumped around to different suspects, we honestly had little clue who might’ve been behind it all. Another fine touch is the subtle development made on part of Mami as she assures P-san of her motivation as well as her desires.
In regards to what’s next, we hope to see a Takane oriented episode soon as her character seems to be rather enigmatic – though regardless of what we’re given next, we’re certainly looking forward to the next episode.
