Black Rock Shooter is finally having the chance to capitalize on its OVA fame with a somewhat unexpected, yet confirmed, TV series allotted for 2012 from noitaminA – the series is a stylish slice of life.
The series is to launch as a full anime this time around, not a mere OVA. It will be released in January 2012 on noitaminA’s block. There are not many specifics available yet – however, of course you should expect it to follow along with the OVA series. We recommend you check out the official site for a fancy coming soon image.
As we’ve said before with several other series, as this is coming from noitaminA, expectations are high – especially when considering that this is Black Rock Shooter.
Black Rock Shooter is somewhat a slice of life, yet also heavy on action – at least when speaking of the OVA. An anime series was hoped for the series for quite some time, yet was met with an OVA instead and lead many to believe a full series would never come to fruition.
The OVA sums up as:
Mato Kuroi just got accepted into a junior high school. On the first day of school, a peculiar one of her classmates catches her eye – Yomi Takanashi. The two charmingly different students meet – the innocent, cute, and naive, Mato, in contrast to the much more mature and refined Yomi.
From that point on, the OVA develops into quite a thriller surrounding their friendship.
The hype has begun. The lack of information at this moment is nearly nerve wrecking.

Oh man I can NOT wait for this. Loved the film, though I felt they wanted to do a lot with the production, but just didn’t have that time slot to go through with everything, thus leaving a lot of holes in the story undeniably. Even so, I was able to enjoy what I watched and I’ll be sure to keep an eye out d(^_^d)

I expected more out of the OVA when I first watched it before. I mean it was good if not great, but having a slice of life story curve ball out of no where was kinda random. I enjoyed it, but was like “huh” for a good portion of the feature. At least I now know what to expect out of a BRS full anime series yeah.

I really hope for something incredible with this, it has the potential, and the concept is magnificent to say the least.

I think the most crucial part to it’s success would be how they handle the transition from slice of life to action action parts. What I’m getting it is it gonna be a slice of life with action thrown in for the hell of it, or is it gonna have a bigger plot thrown in. I agree with you in the fact that a full length BRS anime has serious potential to reach Omega Fury level of awesomeness, it just depends on how they choose to incorporate each segment of the story.

You’re exactly right – one can go so far as to say it’s all about presentation in the end.
Even if the slice of life or action aspects are great individually, if they fail in smoothly transitioning between the two, or unfortunately fail in delivering an enjoyable experience in either (assuming they are included), it will turn out to be a series of equally failing status.

I can see myself easily getting turned off if they don’t pull off BRS just right. On a similar note I was quite skeptical of Madoka Magica because of it’s labeling of a “magical girl anime” but I got more out of it then anticipated, this wasn’t the case for the BRS OVA.
The BRS ova was great in my opinion, but it seemed like an excuse plot to incorporate some great action segments with some “moe” action with the slice of life. It seemed like a throw away plot to me, seeing as the reason why the protagonists get sucked into that other world is never fully explained or explored, it just sort of happened. With a BRS full length anime season (even if it’s just 6-12 episodes), they could explore a variety of reasons why certain individuals get sucked into that hell hole of a world, it just depends on how they incorporate it into the whole presentation as a whole, especially with a middle/high school girl taking the lead yeah.
