“Another” Scary Anime Coming 2012

Jul 29, 2011 @ 14:55 CST

From Yukito Aya Tsuji comes a school horror mystery which has supposedly never been seen before – “Another” is an upcoming anime expected to launch in 2012 alongside a live-action film.

There is little information to go off of thus far – although the official site states it to be a “definitive animated horror” one apparently so spectacular “the world has highly awaited the release from Kadokawa”. It also goes on to claim the series is so sickeningly scary, it has effortlessly left everyone “shivering around the world” in its previous horror novel renditions.

The artist responsible for the character designs for this newly announced anime of 2012 is the lovely female behind the illustrations of Shakugan no Shana and Haruhi, Noizi Ito. The remaining staff has yet to be announced – the same goes for the seiyuu cast.

The story roughly follows the life of a highschool student, a concept so baffling and unheard of, it doesn’t do well in generating any interest on the main character front. Continuing, the class of the main character is seemingly hiding a secret from him during the spring season setting based in 1998.

Koichi Sakakibara, the main character, feels uncomfortable around the class – the atmosphere is one which leaves him strangely frightened by something uncertain. He then comes across a girl who attempts to communicate with him and the mystery thickens.

Most interestingly, the official site notes that after he meets the girl, “an unexpected disaster” occurs.

There isn’t anything except a fancy webpage consisting of a single .jpg image as is shown in the article.

Sounds too much like Ryukishi07′s new manga…

    • Seven says:

It sounds pretty generic in general – “horror story at a highschool”. Although interesting nonetheless…

i can’t wait to watch this! hope its gonna be like higurashi anime

  • Read the manga up until chapter 6, many things don’t make sense, but I do want to know what happens. Everyone and thing seems creepy too… SEMI-SPOILER
I’m going to reveal that some people die up until the point I read and it is in fact kind of horrific… I felt bad only for one character though
    END OF SEMI-SPOILER
Other than that, I would like to find out how the novel is… Seeing how scanlations are going for the manga (even now) I would expect the anime to finish first lol

I’m looking forward to this adaptation for the reason that the author is the husband of Fuyumi Ono, also a horror novelist and author of Twelve Kingdoms, Ghost Hunt and Shiki.

  • Symm says:

Ghost Hunt was a brilliant anime and it’s great to see more horror amines. There is just not enough of them and only few good titles – can’t wait for this.

    • Seven says:

Same here – anime is truly lacking in the way of horror. Not many horror series are true to the core aspects of the genre and ideally this one will prove otherwise.

  • “The series is so sickeningly scary, it has effortlessly left everyone “shivering around the world” in its previous horror novel renditions.”

Hrm… that’s quite a bit of confidence they’ve got going there, which may or may not be well deserved. Admittedly this is the first I’ve ever heard of the series; but this has sparked my curiosity somewhat, so I’ll have to go and check it out.

In all honesty, I really do hope it lives up to its hype. I can’t even remember how many years it’s been since I was honestly frightened by a series. “Shiki” was my last anime that could even fall into the horror genre; though with all due respect, something of that level is more apt to frightening little children than anyone else.

Looking forward to seeing what this “Another” series has to offer.
